A sexual fantasy is also sometimes called an erotic fantasy. Simply put, sexual fantasies can be termed as thoughts related to sex and sexual feeling. They can be described as erotic thoughts to achieve sexual relief via masturbation.

Sex fantasies have been studied in detail by psychologists. According to them, sex fantasies get their birth from the events of a person’s own life, like their past experiences and expectations. Even though the origins of the sexual fantasies long in the past, these can affect the future of the person in many ways.
How practical are Sex Fantasies?
Most fantasies that people have will be unrealisable and even the significance that a fantasy has to a particular person can vary. No one can explain their sexual fantasies to others effectively, not even to their sexual partners, because most of these are quite abstract. But with the time the sexual fantasies can become tolerable and achievable. It can be said then that as a person develops a comfort zone with the sexual partner, the sexual fantasies start appearing to be more doable.
Sex Fantasies – Can they be a Problem?
Though sexual fantasies are considered to be mainly harmless, problems can occur due to them in some rare and extreme cases. For example, there have been many sexual offenses that have been committed as a solution to a rampant sexual fantasy. Another example, some people may have a sexual fantasy of making love to a dead person, commonly called necrophilia, and that could and would turn them to a life of crime.
On the other hand, if a person does not have a sexual fantasy, it can be termed as a dysfunction of the mind. There is a social perspective to this too. People who live in conservative societies may find it shameful or forbidding to have a sexual fantasy, let alone play it out. This can cause guilt and frustration.

When it comes to just the individual, all kinds of sexual fantasies are acceptable. Times are changing to most harmless kinds of sex fantasies and couples are becoming more and more open about playing them out.
